I was watching a reaction video on You Tube about makeovers on Americas Next Top Model. That’s what inspired me to talk about this. Mainly for my young readers, who may not know the importance of taking care of your skin.
When I entered junior high I had horrible cystic acne. I think I tried every brand on the market, I just couldn’t get it under control. I would cake on makeup to cover it up. Then I got super stressed. Got more acne. It was a cycle. I was in drill/dance team until my senior year of high school, so performing and dancing didn’t quite help the situation much.
Freshman year I went to a dermatologist. By far it was the most awkward situation on the planet. They gave me doctor-approved products to try and even make up, which I will talk about later.
I noticed a huge difference in my skin. I went to a dermatologist for about a year. But within that year I learned as much as I could about my skin and ways to get it cleared up.
- Genital face wash
This was something I learned first hand. I use Cetaphhil. And it works, I swear by it. It is something that too this day I promise that it works. Another face wash is simple, it smells good and it’s really easy to use. And, lastly I recommend Neutrogena pomegranate. That I loved smelling first thing in the morning!
- Wash your face at least two times a day and get oil blotting sheets.
I will start with the oil blotting sheets because that sounds oddly specific. When I finally got it under control I got oil blotting sheets and that helped a lot! As of washing your face two times a day at least! It’s a must I know on the weekends when I didn’t have dance competitions or practice I washed it at least 3 times a day.
- Drink water
This seems a little obvi, but I am telling you that water, is 100% a true help to keeping your skin healthy.
- Use mineral make up or Tinted moisturizer!
Okay, this is where I get a little step stool and tell you guys the truth that is mineral make up, and tinted moisturizer. If you have been following me for a while then you will know that I swear by Sonia Kashuk. I 100% stand by this. Young teenagers skin is still changing and hormone levels do not really help the situation. So when I was a little freshman in high school, my dermo told me point blank that mineral make up or tinted moisturizer is better for the skin then foundation. Hence why I wear tinted moisturizer for foundation even today.
The mineral make up that I used was youngblood. So would I use this today? Totally! Back then I think it was still a fairly new cosmetic. And if I am remembering correctly bare minerals was one of the first high end brands on the market back then that kind of kick started the late 2000’s mineral make up trend. (Anyone, remember those commercials?)
I swear by mineral make up and tinted moisturizer. Hard make up such as foundation doesn’t allow the skin to breath. Hopefully that explains this point, if it doesn’t and you have a question, totally feel free to ask!
